4/24/17 Sound Design-Guardians of the Galaxy In the opening scene the audience is introduced to Peter Quill, a young boy whose mother is dying of cancer. During this brief scene the music is slow and dramatic to encourage the feelings of grief. Distraught, Peter runs away and is soon abducted by a group of aliens and brought onto their ship. After this scene has passed the Marvel logo appears in its iconic fashion by fading its theme into the music and providing astounding graphic effects. Later we time jump in our story to the present day and mysterious music starts to play as to create an urge of suspense. As our protagonist Star lord, (Peter Quill) narrowly escapes the pursuit of soldiers action music begins to play in an ecstatic manner. Eventually our protagonist finds himself in an intergalactic prison where he meets his future companions. This movie contains a lot of music from the 1980's and late 1970's which gives comedic relief to scenes that otherwise would have been serious or dramatic. Although this movie is based off of a more obscure Marvel intellectual property, its use of sound design and comedic dialogue makes up for it. Its just an all-around good movie.

2/24/17 I don't remember the last time I've watched television. Some shows I used to watch are in their third season now since I've stopped watching them. I think one reason I left television for so long is because of alternate forms of entertainment such as youtube. Online media platforms are more accessible now because of smartphones and becoming more popular. Why would I watch a show on television that airs a new episode once every one to two weeks when I can watch an endless amount of content from a variety of creators; some of which post several times a day. Another reason that I took a leave from TV is because of the schedules the broadcast companies create. Most of the time episodes are just reruns from the same series, and some aren't even shows that are considered to be good by the masses. I think this is the case because the broadcast companies are trying to expose their shows to a variety of audiences to improve ratings faster than if they took time to establish a reliable fanbase. However there are some broadcast companies that promote creativity within their television series and I do occasionally watch them, so not all is lost. Overall I didn't mind my absence from TV and rather enjoy that I'm able to find time for other entertainment platforms. Blogs-
2/6/17 Movie Review-Rouge One Upon seeing the trailer for the new Star Wars movie "Rouge One," I was looking forward towards it's debut. The movie going experience has tend to be great for me and was the case this time as well. As soon as the film started, it revealed something new by abandoning the yellow text crawl that is iconic to the Star Wars franchise. At first this was alarming to me because the nostalgia I had possessed gave me the expectation of the text crawl, but seeing that this was not a main entry into the series that feeling subsided. The main character has gone into hiding due to her father being forced to construct a weapon for the galactic empire and the film fast forwards ten years or so. Entering another seen is a rebel spy who is looking for information on the location of the main character's father in order to prevent the completion of the super weapon. The main character meets the other character and joins the rebellion in order to see her father again and find the death star plans. In this movie the characters are relatable due to their flaws but they don't feel memorable because of the lack of development. The ratio of CGI effects and practical are about the same and makes the movie look detailed. Before watching this movie I was wondering how the director was going to change this from the extended universe lore (reconed to legends) and how it tied into the other movies. The story was fantastic and earned every minute of my attention. There are so many references and easter eggs within this film and it fixes plot holes of the previous movies. Well thats my opinion, I give it an 8/10. |
